Claymont Society's May/June 2025 newsletter included the following. You can reach a form to donate using a link below and above the project description text, and the image has a QR code.
Dear friends of the Claymont Society,
Claymont will soon have solar power at the barn. We have been given an extremely generous donation which has allowed us to begin the process of installing the solar panels.
Through the donation and other contributions, we are well over halfway towards the total cost. In the initial formation of the plan, we had hoped for Federal and State Clean Energy Funding, it is unknown whether any will be available.
As retreats continue to increase, solar panels will allow Claymont to better reduce, control, and stabilize our ever-increasing costs. It is an important move toward better stewardship of resources. At the same time, it will allow for more intern and resident housing. We are in a point of transition; we have a solid group of elders in residence and a need to welcome the next generation that will carry Claymont’s work forward. Reducing costs will aid in this effort.
We have done our due diligence in the selection of the solar installation company and the engineering review of the existing roof structure. We are deeply indebted and grateful to the generous benefactor for the generosity of heart and intention, as well as Cybee Bloss for their tireless effort in working with the solar committee and the Board as we moved through this process.
This is our way forward: there will be change in this shifting and uncertain time.
Only people who sincerely wish to give rather than take, to overcome their own weaknesses rather than exploit the weaknesses of others, can create a society that will survive in the hard times ahead. The hard times are themselves a necessary factor in self-perfecting. This is one reason why schools of wisdom can become active when mankind is approaching a time of crisis.
